The town of Monterosi is located along the ancient Via Francigena, reachable simply by following the appropriate signs. Lovely small town, Monterosi in the past has been one of the most important strategic points, because of its position nearby the important Via Cassia. The banks of the little lake of Monterosi were witnesses of the famous meeting between Hadrian IV and Frederick Barbarossa, which occurred in 1155. The lake is a small volcanic crater with a diameter of 600 meters, but contains within it a great heritage from the geological and naturalistic point of vew
